The pantheon of champions has two vacancies! Grab your guns and enter the labyrinth...

Maze of Heroes is an easy-to-learn, print-and-play strategy game for 2-4 players aged 8+, successfully funded on Kickstarter.

Set up

Cut out the maze tiles, heroes and stands. Fold the pieces and use sticky tape to hold them together. Drop a 5c piece (or another small, heavy object) into each triangular hero token, so they don’t fall over. Arrange the maze tiles such that each tile is connected to at least one other tile. Players take turns choosing a hero and placing them on any triangle. Once each player has picked two heroes, the game begins.

How to play

On each of your turns, you get two moves and one shot. You can take these actions in any order, using either or both of your heroes. If a hero is shot, the player who shot them takes the piece (to keep score). The player who lost a hero gets to pick a new one and place them on any triangle. The first player to collect three enemy heroes wins.

Rules

  • You can’t shoot on your first turn
  • You can leapfrog over another hero, like in Checkers
  • Heroes can’t move diagonally (except for Grapevine)
  • Heroes can’t shoot diagonally (except for Crossfire)
  • Heroes can’t move through walls (except for Jumper Cable)
  • Heroes can’t shoot through walls (except for Cannonball)
  • Your range is infinite, and you can shoot over a gap in the map
  • You don’t have to use your moves or your shot if you don’t want to
  • Disputes over the rules are settled by popular vote, or failing that, coin toss.

FAQ

Can newly summoned heroes shoot on their first turn? No.

“On each of your turns you get two moves and one shot.” Does this mean you can move the same hero twice OR that each hero can move one space each? Both! The player chooses which.

Does Revolver have to expend a Move or Shoot action to be able to utilise it’s ability, or is that a bonus action it can take during it’s turn? Yes - this counts as one of Revolver's moves.

Is there a different recommended amount of tiles you should use for a 2, 3 or 4 player game? It's most fun with two tiles per player.

Can Sleepwalk use their ability to force move an opponent's hero? Yes! That's the main benefit of having Sleepwalk.

I'm hoping you could help me with some rules questions:

- Can newly summoned heroes shoot on their first turn?

- “On each of your turns you get two moves and one shot.” Does this mean you can move the same hero twice OR that each hero can move one space each?

- Does Revolver have to expend a Move or Shoot action to be able to utilise it’s ability, or is that a bonus action it can take during it’s turn?

-Is there a different recommended amount of tiles you should use for a 2, 3 or 4 player game?

-The PDF states the first person to collect three enemy heroes win, but the description on your itchpage says the first person to collect two enemy heroes wins. Which is correct?

-Can Sleepwalk use their ability to force move an opponent's hero?

-Do you have a video of example gameplay? We're loving the concept, but we feel like we're doing something wrong as games are either super fast, with no time to develop strategies, or super slow stalemates where players realise if they attack, they'll lose.

I'm so sorry it took me so long to see this and respond! I got sucked into my main job, and only just logged into itch for the first time in a year. Thank you so much for taking the time to check out my game! You rock. Answers:

-The PDF states the first person to collect three enemy heroes win, but the description on your itchpage says the first person to collect two enemy heroes wins. Which is correct? Three! Thanks for calling my attention to this.

-Can Sleepwalk use their ability to force move an opponent's hero? Yes! That's the main benefit of having Sleepwalk.

-Do you have a video of example gameplay? We're loving the concept, but we feel like we're doing something wrong as games are either super fast, with no time to develop strategies, or super slow stalemates where players realise if they attack, they'll lose. The games are supposed to be relatively fast, but there shouldn't be any stalemates! I'll see if I can round up some friends to make a video.

Thanks for your insightful questions! I'll update the itch page so they can help other players, too.

P.S. Love to hear what you think of the expansion!

Will the expansion pack also be made available?

That expansion pack was a Kickstarter exclusive, but Sydney and I are hard at work on a different expansion pack - stay tuned! :)

...And, BOOYAH!
